Canada's Agriculture Department Increases 2024-25 Durum Wheat Seeded Area and Production Forecast, Other Wheat Types See Decrease in Seeded Area but Rise in Production

According to data from Statistics Canada, Canada's agriculture department has revised the seeded area for durum wheat for 2024-25 upward by 22,239 acres, reaching a total of 6.365 million acres. Consequently, the projected durum production has increased from the June estimate of 5.655 million metric tons to 6.30 million. Exports have risen by 300,000 tons to 4.8 million tons, and feed, waste, and dockage have increased by 245,000 tons to 662,000 tons, resulting in an estimated carryout increase of 100,000 tons to 800,000 tons. The projected carryout for 2023-24 was 350,000 tons.

Conversely, AAFC has decreased the seeded area for all other types of wheat for 2024-25 by 299,000 acres, bringing it down to 20.401 million. Despite this, production has risen by 191,000 tons to 28.937 million tons. Exports have increased by 50,000 tons to 20.55 million tons, and feed and dockage waste have also risen by 141,000 tons to 4.676 million tons. As a result, ending stocks remain at 2.45 million tons, which is 100,000 tons more than the ending stocks for 2023-24.
